Card Sketch A Day

I recently found a great website that offers a different card sketch each day. Susan at Card Sketch A Day creates a new sketch every day and offers visitors a chance to create a card and post it on her blog. You then need to post it to your blog on the same day it is released. I loved her sketches and asked for a Christmas Tree sketch (she works a month in advance so that is why I got the Christmas Tree). I knew what set I wanted to use but worried about the size. I ended up having to make a 5 x 7 card instead of the invitation size. I added lots of glitter and Stickles to the trees so they are sparkly. I really like how this card turned out and will modify it to make some to send out this Christmas. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Here is a picture of the tree so you can see the sparkle.

Check out what I have been doing

I bet you are wondering what I have been up to since I haven't posted anything since Monday. I spent yesterday running errands and today I have been in my stamp room working on a Christmas present.

Several months ago I ordered a stamp set from Papertrey Ink with the intentions of making this Christmas gift. Being the procrastinator that I am, I put it off and promptly forgot about it until this week. That meant that I had to finish it today so that I could go to Michael's tomorrow and see if I can get it framed by Christmas.

I began by stamping the house on my good paper and again on another piece of paper. I used a picture I had taken of the house to watercolor the house like his. See the cute shutters. Well the house stamp does not have shutters on it so I had to hand draw them in. Not bad if I say so myself. After coloring the top image I colored the one on the good paper (when you layer if you color the image underneath, if you don't line the 2 images up exactly your eye won't notice it as the coloring is the same.

I then needed something else as the house image and the name would look a little silly. I used the tree from Loads of Love to create a row of pine trees extending from the house across the page. I colored the stamp with markers to get the brown truck. I basically off stamped the image once and did some second and third generation stamping. After stamping I laid out the letters and the tree trunks looked a little funny so I sponged on Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa to make a ground. I then used 2 blues and an Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool to create the sky.

So are you wondering what this gorgeous creation looks like. Now keep in mind I have not cut it down as I wanted to make sure I allowed for some space to fit in the frame. Okay, okay I know you are anxious to see it. Here it is!

Stamps: Loads of Love, Boards and Beams (Papertrey Ink) Paper: Whisper White, black Ink: Ballet Blue, Bashful Blue, Basic Gray, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, Going Gray, Ruby Red, Palette Noir Black Accessories: Always Artichoke - Close to Cocoa - Going Gray - Night of Navy markers, Olivia Cuttlebug Alphabet Set, Cuttlebug, aqua painter, dimensionals
So, what do you think? I am headed to Michael's tomorrow to see about getting if framed. Wish me luck! When I get it framed I will post a picture so you can see how it looks. I will try to post something for you to look at tomorrow. Thanks for looking and have a great evening!

My last ATC for this swap

Sorry for the late post but I created this last night and had to wait for the sun to come out to get a good picture.

Well I have created my last ATC (Artistic Trading Card) for the monthly swap I was in. The hostess has so much going on that she has decided not to continue the group next year. I understand how busy she is but I will miss participating as this was a great swap. The other ladies always did a nice job with their cards. I used this swap (as well as others I participate in) to increase my skills and challenge myself. I will continue to participate in other swaps as I enjoy them.

I wanted to try Michelle's brayered background technique as I love her backgrounds but figured it would be easy to do a smaller version. Needless to say, I think a bigger image would be better. First I stamped my image and embossed it. The I inked up the brayer with Baja Breeze and starting off the card brayered down the card (Michelle does a great job on her tutorials on her blog). After that I then used Not Quite Navy and repeated the brayering but did not go all the way down so that some of the Baja Breeze still showed through. For my first time I don't think it turned out too bad. Here is my final ATC for the year!

Stamps: Lovely As A Tree Paper: Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Ski Slope DS Ink: Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Versamark Accessories: Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, ribbon (Michael's), brayer, sponge dauber, sticky tape, dimensionals

Do you think you will try Michelle's brayered technique? I know I will be playing it with it some more. Thanks for looking and enjoy this gorgeous weather!

2 more cased cards

After I posted yesterday I headed to my craft room as I had 2 more cards I wanted to case.  Both of these cards use the Lovely As A Tree set.  I am so glad they did not retire this set as I love using this set in the fall and winter.  You can create some beautiful cards with this set.

The first card I cased was created by Jenn D.  I loved how she highlighted her masked area with piercing.  I created a circle template just like I did yesterday to stamp my trees.  After stamping my trees I stamped the single large pine tree.  Then I used a plastic circle canvas that I bought at JoAnn's to pierce around the stamped trees making sure I began and stopped piercing at the pine tree.  I did place my saying too high and should have it down more towards the corner.  Like the looks of this tree for a different look.  Here is my creation.

Stamps: Lovely As A Tree, All Holidays Paper: Handsome Hunter, white Ink: Handsome Hunter, Real Red Accessories: plastic circle canvas (JoAnn's), paper piercer, red grosgrain ribbon, sticky tape, crystal effects

My second card is actually a case of a case.  I saw this card posted by Stampin' Mo and knew I wanted to give it a try.  I liked the simplicity but elegant look of the card.  Here is my creation.

Stamps: Lovely As A Tree, All Holidays Paper: Always Artichoke, Mello Moss, white Ink: Handsome Hunter Accessories: white Gelly Roll pen, paper piercer and piercing template, ribbon (JoAnn's), sticky tape, crystal effects, dimensionals
Well I am headed back to my craft room to work on some deadlines I have.  I am thinking I will only do a few more Christmas cards and then move on to some winter cards.  Thanks for looking and have a great Sunday.

Sharing Some Cases

I love creating cards from sketches or using specified colors. Sometimes I want to use a specific set and I get a mental block. When that happens I go to Splitcoast Stampers and visit their gallery for ideas. They have the pictures categorized by companies and in Stampin' Up's case they have it broken down by stamp set (warning some sets can have quite a few pages - Lovely As A Tree had 67 pages). I had 2 sets I wanted to use and decided to check out the gallery to see what examples they had that I could case (copy and share everything). Here are the 2 cards I created from the cards in the samples. The first card uses Lovely As A Tree. I cased ttburton's card which you can see by clicking on her name. I changed it some as I wanted a more elegant Christmas card. I created a template of the oval using my oval cutter. I made the template the same size as the card so I would not have to worry about getting ink anywhere else on the card. Here is my creation from hers.

Stamps: Lovely As A Tree, All Year Cheer III Paper: Mellow Moss, white Ink: Handsome Hunter, Mellow Moss, Encore Gold Accessories: ribbon (Pink Hedgehog), sticky tape
My second card began with the set Merry and Bright. I found coriefoster's card that I liked and used it to make my version. I have to admit that there were several pieces that ended up in the trash as I messed them up. I do like how this one turned out. Here is my version of her card.

Stamps: Baroque Motifs, Merry and Bright, Priceless, The Snowflake Spot Paper: Handsome Hunter, Mellow Moss, Rose Red, white Ink: Basic Black, Handsome Hunter, Mellow Moss, Encore Gold Accessories: ribbon (JoAnn's), Basic Black - Close to Cocoa - Handsome Hunter - Rose Red markers, gold pen, ticket corner punch, scallop punch, 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" circle punch, sticky tape, dimensionals
So if you ever get a mental block, don't forget to check out the galleries on Splitcoast Stampers. There are lots of great cards to help jump start you ideas. Thanks for looking and have a great evening!

Cute Punched Santa

My sister bought a card magazine (Paper Creations Magazine, Winter 2009) and as I was looking at it I saw a cute Santa card made using punches. I thought it would be so cute on a card so I modified it and created this card for my workshop this week. I used the sketch from Our Creative Corner and modified it a little. I love how it turned out.

After I punched the face, I used a sponge dauber to add some Pretty in Pink ink to his rosy cheeks. I then cut about 3/8" off the bottom of the circle so it wouldn't show when you added the moustache. I also added did the same thing to his nose so he has a nice rosy glow. And since I needed an image or embellishment in the lower left corner I added the reindeer cause Santa has to have his reindeer. Everything else is pretty straight forward. I know the girls will enjoy making him this week. Here is the sketch and my creation.

Stamps: Festive Favorites (retired) Paper: Blush Blossom, Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, white, Holiday Treasures PP Ink: Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink Accessories: Black - Chocolate Chip brads (Pink Hedgehog), Close to Cocoa - Creamy Caramel - Real Red markers, 5/8" - 1" - 1 3/4" circle punches, Pom pom, small and large tag punch, red grosgrain ribbon,Spica red micro flake glitter pen, sponge dauber, crimper, Crystal Effects, sticky tape, dimensionals

Isn't this just the cutest card and I bet you wish you were coming to my workshop! Well I am off to the store to get gum drops for another project. Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Another Amy Sketch Card

Yesterday I posted a card I had made using Amy's sketch. I realized I had changed her sketch a little. While it is okay to change a sketch I really liked her layout and decided to use it for a card for my workshop this week.

I have been saving used dryer sheets for a while as I remember seeing a post with them. I decided to use one of the sheets as a background for a snow card. They are readily available as we all use them. To attach them to the card I used glue but found that my card warped. I know they can be attached using mono but it takes a lot. If anyone has attached them another way, please let me know as I would love to be able to use up my dryer sheets in a variety of ways.

I cut my snowflakes out with my Cuttlebug die cut using glittery felt. I found the glitter did not stay on so don't waste your money on that just get plain felt. To add the glitter I smooshed my snowflake in my glue pad then put it in my glitter. I did not press it into the glitter as I wanted some white to show through. Everything else is pretty cut and dry. Here is the sketch again and my creation.

Stamps: Big on Christmas, Snow Swirled, Cold Play (retired) Paper: Baja Breeze, white, Ski Slope Designer Series Ink: Baja Breeze, Basic Black, Encore Silver Accessories: Going Gray - Mellow Moss - Pumpkin Pie - Real Red markers, Spica red micro flake pen, Clear gelly roll glitter pen, Cuttlebug snowflake die, Nirvana glitter (Art Glitter), glue pad, dimensionals

Isn't this a beautiful card and don't you wish you were coming to my workshop? Thanks for looking and have a great day!
